Firearm Transfer Policy

Coastal Firearms — Firearm Transfer Policy

Effective: October 5, 2025
Coastal Firearms LLC (Sussex County, DE) — coastal-firearms.store — Email: guy@coastalfirearmsllc.com

Quick summary

Coastal Firearms will accept firearm transfers and assist with all required paperwork to help you lawfully receive a firearm purchased elsewhere. Transfers are processed during normal store hours or by appointment. By using our transfer services you agree to follow this policy and to pay the applicable fees below.

How transfers work — buyer responsibilities

  • You must be eligible. All federal and state eligibility, age, and licensing requirements apply. Buyers are responsible for ensuring they meet federal and Delaware requirements before attempting a transfer. If you are unsure about your eligibility, consult an attorney or state authorities prior to purchase.
  • Identification required. Bring valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, passport) matching the name on the transfer paperwork. Additional ID or proof of residency may be required per state or federal law.
  • Handgun age requirement. Federal and state laws apply; the buyer must meet applicable age requirements. (We will confirm eligibility during transfer paperwork.)
  • Fees & payment. Transfer fees and any required taxes/fees must be paid before the firearm is released. See fee table below. We accept payment in-person at the time of transfer; contact us for accepted payment methods.
  • Background checks. All required background checks will be completed per federal/state law. If you do not pass the background check, the firearm will be returned to the sender and a background-check denial fee will apply (see Fees).
  • Pick-up timeframe. Firearms not picked up within 30 days of arrival with no contact will be returned to the seller at the buyer’s expense. Storage fees may apply if the buyer requests additional hold time (see Storage).

Seller / shipper instructions

  • Out-of-state private party sales: Out-of-state individuals must ship firearms to a licensed Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL). We will only accept firearms from another licensed FFL for out-of-state transactions. Face-to-face sales from private sellers are accepted when both parties present proper ID and meet legal requirements.
  • In-store private transfers: We accept face-to-face transfers at the store subject to legal requirements and paperwork. The seller must provide valid ID at the time of transfer.
  • Ammunition & accessories: We DO NOT accept ammunition or accessories shipped with the firearm. Sellers must ship accessories or ammunition separately; otherwise those items will be returned to the sender at the buyer’s expense.

What we will not accept / dealer refusals

  • Coastal Firearms reserves the right to refuse transfers from specific sellers or dealers at our discretion. If we will not accept a transfer from a particular seller, we will notify the buyer and arrange return/shipment to the sender at the buyer’s expense. (If you want us to check a seller before you purchase, contact us in advance.)

Returns, refunds & cancelled transfers

  • If you cancel a transfer before taking possession, the $40 return fee plus any shipping charges will be charged to return the firearm to the seller.
  • If a firearm must be returned because you are ineligible, fail background checks, or we are unable to retain it for legal reasons, the background-check denial fee and return-shipping costs apply.
  • We do not accept returns of firearms accepted as transfers after they have been sold or released to the buyer unless required by law or a manufacturer warranty — contact us for warranty/repair processes.

Prohibited conduct

  • Straw purchases. Attempting to purchase a firearm for someone prohibited from possessing firearms (a “straw purchase”) is illegal. Coastal Firearms will report any suspected illegal activity to federal, state, and local law enforcement and will cooperate fully with investigations. Attempting to circumvent background checks or lying on paperwork will result in criminal charges.
  • False information. Providing false identification or falsified documents is a crime and will result in transfer denial and possible criminal referral.

Privacy & recordkeeping

  • Coastal Firearms is required by federal and state law to maintain transfer records (e.g., required federal/state forms). We protect customer privacy and handle records in accordance with applicable law. Records will be made available to law enforcement only as required by law.

How to initiate a transfer

  1. Contact us at guy@coastalfirearmsllc.com or call the store with the seller/dealer info before purchase to confirm we will accept the transfer.
  2. Provide the shipping dealer’s FFL information (Name, Address, FFL Number) and the tracking number once shipped.
