We’re excited to announce that Coastal Firearms LLC now ships ammunition directly to California! This follows a major legal update that has made online ammo purchases easier and more accessible for California residents.

⚖️ Legal Update – July 2025

In July 2025, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled California’s ammunition background check law unconstitutional, effectively striking down:

  • Mandatory background checks for ammunition purchases
  • Restrictions on direct online ammo shipments into California

This means California residents can now legally purchase ammunition online and have it shipped to them through a licensed dealer (FFL), without needing in-person verification prior to purchase.

📦 How We Ship Ammo to California

To remain fully compliant and ensure smooth delivery:

  1. All ammunition orders for California must ship to a licensed California FFL (Federal Firearms Licensee).
    ➤ You’ll enter your preferred FFL at checkout or select from our list.
  2. We verify FFL licenses before shipping. If your selected dealer isn’t on file, we’ll contact them for confirmation.
  3. Customer age verification is required:
    ➤ 18+ for rifle/shotgun ammo
    ➤ 21+ for handgun ammo
  4. No illegal ammo types:
    Coastal Firearms does not ship any of the following to California:
    • Tracer rounds
    • Armor-piercing bullets
    • Explosive or incendiary ammo
    • Flechette darts or calibers over .60

Q: Can I have ammunition shipped to my home in California?
🛑 Not at this time. California law still requires ammo to be shipped to a licensed FFL. We ship directly to your chosen dealer.

Q: Do I still need to go through a background check?
🚫 No. As of July 2025, the ammunition background check system has been struck down and is no longer in effect.

Q: How do I know which FFL to choose?
